Description

Still Spirits Finishing Carbon is a fine activated carbon designed for polishing neutral spirits after distillation. Its small 0.9mm granules provide effective filtration and help reduce unwanted flavours, aromas, colour and congeners from distillate.

The fine granules give the spirit plenty of activated carbon surface to contact as it moves through the filter. This makes finishing carbon useful as a final polishing stage when preparing clean neutral spirit before adding your chosen spirit flavouring or essence.

You can use it with the Still Spirits Filter Pro, funnel filters and other compatible gravity-fed filtration systems.

Why Filter Neutral Spirit?

Even after distillation, neutral spirit can retain unwanted flavours, aromas or compounds that affect the finished result. Carbon filtration adds another polishing stage before you flavour or finish the spirit.

As diluted spirit moves through the filter, the activated carbon captures unwanted compounds on its surface. A steady flow gives the spirit time to contact the carbon throughout the filtration process.

For best results, prepare your spirit and carbon according to the instructions supplied with your filtration equipment.

Using the Still Spirits Filter Pro

The Still Spirits Filter Pro uses one 500g bag of finishing carbon per filtration.

Prepare the carbon and spirit according to the Filter Pro instructions before you begin. Keep the spirit flowing through the filter at the recommended rate. This gives it enough time to contact the activated carbon during the polishing process.

Complete the filtration process before adding spirit essences or other flavourings.

When to Use Fresh Carbon

Activated carbon becomes less effective as it captures unwanted compounds from the spirit. For this reason, use fresh carbon for each Filter Pro filtration rather than reusing carbon from a previous batch.

Using a fresh 500g bag also gives the Filter Pro the correct amount of carbon for each filtration. Once you finish filtering, discard the used carbon and prepare fresh carbon for your next batch.
