Beer Clarifiers, Finings & Enzymes
Beer clarifiers, finings and enzymes can help home brewers improve different parts of the brewing and fermentation process. Clarifying products help reduce haze and suspended material, while brewing enzymes can help achieve specific fermentation results.
At Discount Home Brew Supplies, our range includes dry and liquid beer finings, Whirlfloc tablets and dry brewing enzyme.
Beer Clarifiers and Finings
Beer can remain cloudy because proteins, yeast and other fine particles stay suspended in the liquid. Some of this material will settle naturally over time. However, the right clarifying product can help improve the process.
Different products work at different stages of brewing. Therefore, it is important to choose a product suited to your brewing method and follow its individual instructions.
Beer Finings
Beer finings help suspended particles settle from the beer. They are generally used during or towards the end of fermentation, depending on the product.
As the suspended material settles, it can form a more compact layer at the bottom of the fermenter. This can make it easier to transfer clearer beer into bottles or a keg while leaving more sediment behind.
Our range includes both dry and liquid beer finings for convenient use by home brewers.
Whirlfloc Tablets
Whirlfloc is a kettle clarifier rather than a fermentation fining. It is added during the boil to help haze-forming proteins and other material coagulate and settle from the wort.
This makes Whirlfloc particularly useful for all-grain and extract brewing. Always follow the recommended dosage and addition time for the product.
Brewing Enzymes
Brewing enzymes perform a different job to finings and clarifiers. Rather than settling suspended particles, enzymes help change how malt sugars are processed during fermentation.
Dry Enzyme Sachet 3g is added with the brewing yeast to help break down more of the malt sugars, allowing the yeast to ferment more of them. This makes it useful for producing drier, lower-carb beer styles.
Dry enzyme may extend fermentation time, so always ensure the specific gravity remains stable for three days before bottling.
Choosing the Right Brewing Aid
Choose your product according to the result you want to achieve. Use finings or a kettle clarifier when improving clarity is the goal. Choose a dry brewing enzyme when you want to produce a drier, lower-carb beer style.
Always check the individual product page for preparation and usage instructions before adding a clarifier, fining or enzyme to your brew.
