Description

Pure Distilling Rum Barrel Chunks are cut from genuine French oak barrels with a unique Australian history. Originally used for red wine, the barrels then spent three and a half years finishing Queensland rum before being repurposed into chunks for home spirit ageing.

As a result, these seasoned barrel chunks add rich, full-bodied character with mature French oak influence. They are ideal for developing depth, colour and a distinctive Australian rum-style profile in your homemade spirits.

Pure Distilling Rum Barrel Chunks Instructions

40% ABV Method

• Add 500g of Rum Barrel Chunks to 2.5L of 40% ABV neutral spirit or vodka.
• Then allow the spirit to age for approximately 16–24 days.
• During ageing, taste regularly and remove the chunks once you reach your preferred level of oak character.

60% ABV Method

• Alternatively, add 500g of Rum Barrel Chunks to 2.5L of spirit at 60% ABV.
• Allow the spirit to age for approximately 8–12 days.
• However, taste regularly because the higher alcohol strength extracts flavour and oak character more quickly.
• Once the desired character develops, remove the chunks and dilute the spirit to your preferred drinking strength.

Ageing times are a guide. Because genuine barrel wood naturally varies, flavour intensity and extraction time can also vary between batches.
