Air-Cooled Reflux Distilling with Still Spirits VORTEX
The Still Spirits VORTEX Reflux Equipment Kit brings air-cooled condenser technology to reflux distilling. Instead of relying on a continuous flow of cooling water, the VORTEX system uses forced air to remove heat during operation.
This kit includes two VORTEX Air Cooled Condenser Modules together with Still Spirits CREATE+ 2-inch modular components, tri-clamps, gaskets and the equipment required to assemble the VORTEX reflux configuration.
Pair the equipment kit with the CREATE+ 25L Boiler to complete the main boiler and VORTEX equipment setup.

How the VORTEX Air-Cooled Condenser Works
Each VORTEX condenser contains stainless steel product tubes surrounded by aluminium cooling fins. Heat from the vapour or liquid transfers through the tubes into the fins. Three integrated fans then move air across the fins to dissipate the heat.
Cooling can be adjusted using the fan-speed control dial. Increasing or decreasing the fan speed changes the rate of heat dissipation, providing control similar to adjusting water flow through a conventional water-cooled condenser.
This allows reflux distilling without the continuous cooling-water supply normally required by traditional condenser arrangements.
Reflux and Alembic Configurations
The VORTEX Reflux Equipment Kit is also a 2-in-1 equipment kit.
Although supplied for a reflux configuration, its modular components can be reconfigured to support water-free alembic distillation. This provides additional flexibility for distillers who want to use their equipment for different styles of distilling.
The system connects to compatible 2-inch tri-clamp distilling equipment and accessories and incorporates components from the Still Spirits CREATE+ modular range.

Still Spirits specifies limits when mounting column and condenser assemblies to its boiler lid or alembic dome. External support may be required where an assembled system exceeds the manufacturer’s specified height or weight limits, has significant off-centre weight or is noticeably leaning.
The aluminium cooling fins can have sharp edges. Take care when handling, assembling, cleaning or storing the VORTEX modules.
Always assemble and operate the equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions and comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding distilling equipment and alcohol distillation.
